Director: Absolutely! "Scream VI" was a very exciting project to work on. We knew that the fans of the franchise will have high expectations, so we wanted to make something at the same time fresh and familiar. We spent a significant amount of time studying the previous films and analyzing the factors that made them successful, while also looking for ways to be different and frighten the audience.
Interviewer: That's interesting. Could you provide us with an example of how you approached that balance between familiarity and novelty?
Director: Absolutely. One of the things we did was bring back certain characters from the initial films, but it was also introducing a new generation of characters confronting their own set of challenges and anxieties. We wanted to pay tribute to the legacy of the franchise , while also acknowledging how the times have changed a significant amount since the very first "Scream" was made in 1996.
Interviewer: In terms of changing the genre of horror has changed quite a bit throughout the years. How do you stay on top of those developments and integrate them into your writing?
Director: It's a great question. It's crucial to keep up-to-date with current events in the field of horror, however, it's important to remember that what scares people fundamentally hasn't changed all that much. We focused on creating suspense and tension through careful pacing and efficient use of music and sound effects, rather than relying too heavily on jump scares or gore.
Interviewer: It's clear that you have put a lot of thought in the design aspects of the film. What is the practical aspect of things, like working with the crew and cast?
Director: It's a key aspect of filmmaking, certainly. We were blessed to have a talented and dedicated crew that were all involved in making the greatest film possible. Communication was essential and we ensured that everyone was on the same page with regards to the tone and style of the production. We also made sure that we created a safe and positive environment on set, where everyone was comfortable and felt appreciated.
Interviewer: That's great to hear that. Finally, what do you hope viewers take away in " Scream VI "?
Director: Most importantly, I hope they enjoy themselves and are not scared out of their minds! However, more importantly, I hope they appreciate the care and attention that went into making the film. We set out to make something that would be a tribute to the past of the franchise while also making its mark as an exciting and enjoyable horror movie. If we've succeeded in doing that, then I'll be very happy.
